A genuine niche within a niche
Alpine-Style Climbing
Alpine style is how our founder climbs, so it is a core part of what we offer rather than an add-on: small teams, light loads and fast, committing ascents in the Karakoram and Hindu Kush.

What “Alpine-Style” Means
Alpine-style climbing means small, self-sufficient teams moving fast and light on the mountain — minimal fixed rope, minimal (often no) supplemental oxygen, and no large siege-style camp infrastructure. It's the opposite of the traditional guided 8,000m model with dozens of fixed camps, Sherpa/HAP-carried loads, and full oxygen support.
HimKa runs both models depending on the objective and the climber: standard guided expeditions for climbers who want full logistical support, and alpine-style ascents for climbers who want a lighter, faster, more committing style of climbing and already have the experience to do it safely.
Eligibility Criteria
Alpine-style ascents leave little margin for error, so we are direct about who they suit. We expect climbers to bring:
- •Prior summits at high altitude, ideally including a 7,000m peak or a technical route, and a record you can walk us through.
- •Proven self-sufficiency on glaciated, crevassed terrain: moving roped, building anchors and running crevasse rescue without depending on fixed lines.
- •Experience climbing without supplemental oxygen at altitude, and a recent medical check-up confirming you are fit for extreme altitude.
- •A conversation with our lead guide before your booking is confirmed. We agree the objective, the team and the plan with you directly; this is not a book-online product.
Guide Credentials for Alpine-Style Leadership
Leading alpine-style ascents is a specialized skill set, distinct from guiding a fixed-camp, fixed-rope expedition. Our founder, Abid Baig, grew up in Hunza and has climbed in the Karakoram, Himalaya and Hindu Kush, often without supplementary oxygen or porter support. His ascents include Nanga Parbat, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I, Khosar Gang, Rush Peak and Terich Mir, which he summited in August 2025 as part of the rope-fixing team. He has also taken part in two rescues on K2. Anyone leading an alpine-style team for us has proven experience climbing self-sufficiently at altitude, along with route-finding, rescue and first-aid skills, and the judgment to turn around when conditions call for it.
